Science Project!

It's time for our first Science Design Process!

Here's a quick rundown of what students have to do:
-Invent a planet with at least 16 aliens
-Design a dichotomous key to classify all of the aliens
-Name and describe each final category on the dichotomous key, giving examples.

**The representation of the planet and aliens can take any number of forms: a poster, a drawing, a collage, a diorama, etc.

**The final project must also include the dichotomous key and the category descriptions, written, of course, in beautiful French.

Students have class time this week to get started. The balance of the project will be completed at home.

Students have a rough copy, including all of the details of the project and a rubric showing how the final project will be marked. This rough copy must be handed in along with the final project.

The final project will be due October 15th.

Personal Identity!

In Social Studies, students created a square representing their personal identity.
Put together, they form the quilt of 6F1!

From the Math Department...

In math we are working on finding common multiples and especially the lowest common multiple. In French, we call it le plus petit commun multiple or ppcm.

Class Library Rules!

Today we discussed the Rules of our Classroom Library.
Each student has a copy of the rules and must agree to respect these rules if they want to borrow books from the classroom library.
Parents are also asked to sign the page.

Tomorrow!

Remember - tomorrow is Golden Gate's Terry Fox Walk/Run in the morning!
Students are encouraged to donate a dollar or two!
Tomorrow afternoon is Atatok - where homerooms complete different fun activities together.
What a FUN FRIDAY!!

Fingerprint Poems!

In English Language Arts, students created fingerprint poems full of reasons why they're each unique and different.

Daily Reflections

Parents - you should be seeing daily reflections coming home with your child.
This is being completed at the end of the day in homeroom and is intended to give you a glimpse into your child's school day.

Terry Fox!

Remember 6F1 - École Golden Gate is collecting money for the Terry Fox Run!
Please hand your donation to your homeroom teacher. Our school goal is to raise one dollar for every student in the school!

Our walk/run in honour of Terry Fox is Friday morning.

SFDG!!

At the end of the day, students participated in the Super Fun Drama Game to get them talking in front of the class. In Round 1, students have to speak (without long pauses or umms or likes) for 30 seconds about a topic thrown out by Mme. The game gets progressively more difficult through Round 2, the Lightning Round and the Final.

My Identity...

In Social Studies, students explored their personal identity by classifying characteristics (such as their family, their culture, their friends and their hobbies) into an ordered list from most important to least important.

Party Committees!!

This year, 6F1 will celebrate with five parties. Each party will be planned by a committee of students who will decide what we do at the party, the decorations and the snacks. Every student will be part of one committee during the year.
Party on!

Classifying...

In Science today, students classified a pile of buttons using a dichotomous key.

From the Math Department...

This morning, we learned about multiples and practiced by playing the Monster Multiple Game.

On aime lire!

In Français, we have been doing Lecture autonome (Reading to Self), as part of our LaLaLa French reading program. Next week we'll be adding Lecture avec ami (Reading to a Friend).

From the Science Department...

Today we learned how to use a dichotomous key by classifying the students of 6F1.

Homework Alert!

The math title page, filled with important numbers, is due tomorrow!

Information Letter!

Students received today a blue package of information. You will find details about the curriculum, the report card, classroom expectations and my contact information.
Parents are asked to complete the Parent Confirmation Form and return it ASAP.

We Are All Smart!

In English Language Arts, students discovered more about their brains by learning about the multiple intelligences. Students completed a survey to determine their strengths and then coloured a graph to represent their multiple intelligences. We then discussed each intelligence and noticed that each graph is unique. We are definitely all smart - just in different ways!

Team Challenge!

In small groups, students had to work together to complete the team challenge: using an elastic and string, turn a plastic cup right side up and carry it around the table - all without touching it with your body! Teams collaborated well and completed the challenge in less than 8 seconds! Well done!

Rights & Responsibilities

In Social Studies, we discussed how rights and responsibilities go hand in hand.
For example, if you have the right to be respected, then you have the responsibility to show respect to others.
